Location: Harrisburg, PA

Salary: $70,000/year - $85,000/year

 

Overview

The Transportation Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the transportation team, including managing a site’s Private Fleet, managing relationships with third-party logistics providers, ensuring exceptional customer service through regular customer visits, and actively supporting business growth by generating and sharing sales leads with the sales team. Position maintains the oversight of all delivery service metrics in their market and contributes to the continuous improvement of transportation functions. May be required to perform day-to-day activities such as covering delivery routes, handling packages (up to 75lb), moving equipment/vehicles, etc.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Delivery Services Team to achieve operational excellence, while ensuring compliance with all Supply Chain SOPs and safety standards. Set clear goals, monitor performance, meet or exceed all delivery service metrics, and provide regular feedback and training.
  • Manage the standardization and optimization of one or more third party delivery and/or private fleet operations and processes within designated delivery markets. Maintain a carrier review process, including the use of scorecards, audits, and other business review mechanisms.
  • Create and cultivate customer relationships through regular customer visits, proactively identifying potential business opportunities. Partner with Sales counterparts to share growth opportunities and resolve customer service barriers.
  • Analyze transportation processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Promote and enforce a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and company policies. Conduct regular safety audits and provide ongoing training for coworkers.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Level of Formal Education: High School diploma or equivalent required, Bachelors preferred
  • Area of Study: Business Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, or related disciplines
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 3
  • Must have professional driving experience

 

Type of Experience: 

  • Retail distribution operations, fleet or carrier management, P&L ownership, service and operating metrics, project implementation management (outsourcing, new business, etc)
  • DOT, FMCSA, etc
  • Customer Service experience (Preferred)

 

Special Certifications: 

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (no moving violations within the past 36 months)
  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), ONLY required for operating delivery vehicles exceeding 26,000 lb. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and Hazmat Delivery. May not apply at all locations.
  • Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) qualification requirements

 

Technical Competencies & Information Systems: 

  • Basic computer skills, to include email, Word, Excel, and chat platforms
  • Transportation software (e.g. Solera, mapping software, etc.)
  • Familiarity with mobile package delivery applications

  • Ability to handle individual items up to 200 lbs. with the use of team lift and/or hand tools.
