Position Details
The Campus Safety Department at The University of Tampa has a position for a qualified Assistant Shift Supervisor on the day (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) shift. This position will assume the duties of the Shift Supervisor during his or her absence and provide for the safety of students, faculty, staff, visitors, and property through enforcement of University and department policies and procedures. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor, Director and Associate Director of Campus Safety.
This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.
Responsibilities
1. Perform the job functions of a Safety Officer.
2. Assist Shift Supervisor, Director and Associate Director in the daily operations of Campus Safety.
3. Assign work task to Safety Officers.
4. Provide training for new Safety Officers.
5. Review Incident Reports, Daily Reports and Time Sheets for completeness and accuracy.
6. Coordinate follow-up investigations on incidents occurring during the shift.
7. Coordinate vacation requests.
8. Schedule license renewal training for officers.
9. Represent the department in a professional and positive manner.
10. Represent the department in the absence of the Shift Supervisor, Director, and Associate Director.
11. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.
Qualifications
1. Strong interpersonal skills to build working partnerships with faculty, staff, and students as well as external parties including neighbors/local residents, city officials, municipal/county/state police agencies, local health services, first responders, and members of the media.
2. Ability to de-escalate conflict situations and a demeanor that is perceived as professional yet calm and relaxed.
3. A high level of professional ethics and personal integrity.
4. High School diploma required, some college preferred.
5. Five (5) years of supervisory experience required.
6. Law enforcement or military experience preferred.
7. Must qualify for Florida Department of State Class "D" and "G" licenses.
8. Must be able to exert appropriate strength when necessary.
9. Ability to climb stairs to the top of a nine story building; make judgment calls while under pressure/duress; carry and use, if necessary, a fire arm under pressure/duress appropriately.
10. Apprehend and detain, if necessary, suspected law violators which may include physical exertion.
11. Excellent clear and concise communication skills required.
12. Must have a valid Florida driver's license.
13. Must successfully pass a personal background, criminal records and psychological check.
14. Experience in using various safety and security equipment (two-way radio, cameras, and computers).
15. Experience in a college or university setting preferred.
16. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.
17. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
Work Schedule
7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Pay Rate
$19.50 per hour ($18.50 + $1.00 Supervisor Pay) and full benefits
*A current UT officer regularly assigned to another shift will receive the adjusted rate of their current base rate (minus shift differential) plus $1.00 per hour.
